Would be nice to have a quick search somewhere on the page that is always visable, either above the menus or in the header!

Yes, consumers expect to be able to type into a search box as soon as they land on a website. The Product Search icon is great for advanced searches, but it's not that easy for a new customer to find, especially if they're looking for a white box to type in. A simple keyword search that is accessible on every page would be simple and user-friendly from a customer perspective.
